Dance Insight with Bryan Allen

Navigating News with an Independent Eye

The most hectic and demanding periods of the dance calendar are historically around the three dance world's most important dance periods. These are the weeks surrounding the almost century old Blackpool Dance Festival, proudly proclaiming and undisputedly "the

worlds first and foremost festival of dancing." Then the weeks around the seventy years or so of the International Championships. If we then add the period around the long established United Kingdom Championships it adds up to quite a large block of committed time and financial commitment in the dancer's diary.

This, along with the constant search for improvement and, to use the modern jargon CPD, Continual Personal Development, places challenge and imposes some obvious restraints. The three "majors" have quite correctly expanded their structures to accommodate both the changing dance world and satisfy the desire and demands of competitors from all around the world. It has to be acknowledged that this might impact on the scheduling of events that occur around these most busiest of times. However, a most important factor is to be found in the consideration of certain facts. I'm a great fan of facts as opposed to opinions. I am

indebted to and acknowledge the words below, obtained from AI.

"Time and disposable income are two fundamental constraints that everyone faces. They limit our ability to pursue everything we want in life."

Time constraints: "There are only 24 hours in a day, and we all need to spend some of that time on essential activities like sleeping, working, and eating. This leaves us with a limited amount of time for leisure, hobbies, and spending time with loved ones."

Disposable income constraints: "Disposable income is the money you have left after paying taxes and other mandatory expenses. It determines how much you can afford to spend on discretionary items like vacations, entertainment, and dining out. These limitations can be frustrating, but they can also be motivating. They force us to make choices about how to spend our time and money. By understanding these constraints, we can make better decisions about what is truly important to us."

So, to all my dancing friends around the world, I request that you consider how best to utilise these two items available to you in these somewhat quieter times!

Of course  we must understand and try to accommodate the desires of others to utilise these periods  for their own activities, some having been established for some time.
