The Dance Review - Kyle Taylor Reports on the Amateur Ballroom at the All England Championships 2025

1st: Finley Featonby & Poppy Reynolds

They produced a very attacking performance and made a strong statement with their dancing, on this occasion. Finley’s structure was much improved, and allowed for a more dominant image overall. Without a doubt, a hugely talented couple who will challenge on an International level. Congratulations!

2nd: Alexander Pishenko & Erin Sefton

Alexander has a soft and natural action, which gives a very mature look to their performance. This was evident in them winning the Waltz. Erin is a strong lady dancer, who brings vibrancy to the couple. For their next development, it would be great to see Alexander take over the reigns, and allow a little more strength and intensity to complement their already quality image.

3rd: Kaynan Barfoot & Polly Welford

They danced very consistently in this competition, and appear to choose an approach to their dancing based on impact and power. This can be attractive at first glance, and certainly gains some reward. If they could balance this with stronger mechanics, and produce it in a more natural way. This would help to ensure the quality is not diminished when the power is put in, and would allow for a more rounded performance.

4th: Jamie Meah & Jess Lewis

Considering their proportions, it often appears that Jamie and Jess are underperforming, and underutilising their abilities. I noted an improvement in their dancing some time ago, when their structure became more stable and consistent. Since then, I have yet to see further significant developments, particularly regarding leg mechanics or upper body usage. There is a lot of potential there, and I hope to see it fulfilled.

5th: Tom Winter & Anna Duncan

Very reliable and strong competitors, who are very often undervalued. This may be due to them appearing quiet on the floor, and not always grabbing the attention immediately. However, as you watch them for any length of time, it is very apparent that they have very sound mechanics, and a great understanding of technique. Attention to changes in speed, and a maximisation of their shaping, could help bring more people into their performance.

6th: Felix Rowan Young & Beth Gardiner

Very convincing finalists on the day, and showing great potential, as this was their debut performance together! Beth was immaculately presented, and provided a very stable position throughout the competition. Felix has a lot of natural ability, and moves across the floor with ease. Sometimes there is a little disconnection between the activity of the lower half, and upper half, of the body. When this is coordinated better, this will provide a much stronger image to this very promising couple.
