The Dance Review - Mark Willemite Reports on the U21 Latin at the British National Championships 2024

1: Daniel Ettridge & May Reid. 1:1:1:1:1

Winner winner winners! From the first beat, the first step, these two were intending to take the title. They synchronised and complimented each other with great understanding and respect for their individual performances and proved to create a coupled display that was truly commanding of this magnificent floor. They owned it! May is a terrific young lady and Dan an enthusiastic and powerful dancer. Winning all 5 dances, no other couple in the final came close to challenging them - congratulations!

2: Mason Bevan & Sofia Nanivska. 2:2:2:2:2

A new partnership which shows promise. A little flamboyant in places and more spacial awareness will no doubt develop in the coming months.

Exciting potential from two exuberant dancers of which the balance of style is still in the making. The future will be very exciting to see this talented pairing progress in the art of Latin American dance. A convincing second place from the distinguished panel of adjudicators.

3: Christopher Buttle & Cee Cee Jackson 3:3:4:3:3

So much energy, enthusiasm and commitment from these two. Chris is determined in his performance and shows a great skill of speed in his actions. Cee Cee is personality plus. She exudes a frivolity and excitement with a very cheeky delivery, supported by a musical interpretation to her own narrative. They leave no step to chance - a very dynamic couple.

4: Enrique Adolphus & Eleanor Kostileva 4:4:3:4:4

A little more quiet than the other couples, no less determined and ready to challenge at all times. They display a classic, elegant and composed performance. There is a calm delivery which offers a sophisticated action and considered technique. On occasions they disconnect and this distracts to the huge potential they have. Could have easily challenged for a higher place. Beautifully attired, immaculate costuming, a suave young man and a sophisticated young lady.

5: Timurs Cepurnojs & Arina Taicher

6:5:6:5:5

I’m always intrigued by Timurs’ dance performance. He has an individual style and quietly involves himself in his idiosyncratic actions only to sometimes lose the timing of what he’s performing. A great talent, but a little introverted at times. Arina compliments the partnership and she too has a individual ability that I hope develops to make a very exciting partnership to challenge for a higher place. Quite a unique couple.

6: Jan Borysiak & Ada Sutton 5:6:5:6:6

Delighted to make the final and well deserved. They attracted the eye and demanded attention throughout the competition.

A very coordinated young man considering his height and the lovely Ada supporting a very talented partnership. Great personalities that conveyed the joy of dance and the accomplishment of making the final.

Well done, more to come from these two engaging dancers.
